High speed version of three-dimensional wave optics simulator TiSSiEN-POP has been successfully developed.
Its performance has been verified by being applied to image sensors.
TCAD International, Inc. (Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan; President & CEO: Kazuo Yamada) has successfully developed and released a high speed version of three-dimensional wave optics simulator TiSSiEN-POP.
Three-dimensional wave motion calculation technique, uniquely developed by TCAD International, has been further improved. Its three-dimensional light intensity calculation performance was tested while changing the following conditions:

Object: image sensor
Wavelength: visible light
CPU: 1 CPU, clock frequency: 3GHz
Number of lattices: 40,000,000

As a result of huge amount of calculations, it is verified that TiSSiEN-POP processes calculation at an astonishing high calculation speed of more than 100 times as fast as the conventional speed by FDTD method.

Conventional calculation method
Conventionally, as a three-dimensional wave motion calculation technique, FDTD method is widely known. However, it takes an extremely long time for calculation and requires a large scale memory. To solve this problem, parallel distributed processing method using MPI, processing method using a dedicated processor etc have been proposed. In any cases, a considerably large cost is required and prevents introduction of them into actual use.

Impact rendered by TiSSiEN-POP
Generally, to obtain design parameters through simulations, a huge amount of combinations of parameters has to be calculated. On the other hand, time and cost required for one calculation have to be reduced within a reasonable range. It is difficult for engineers at product designing / developing section to solve this problem by using a program featured with FDTD method purchased from the market.
New TiSSiEN-POP has solved the problems and removes the barriers to its introduction. Therefore, new TiSSiEN-POP, which changes the designing flow, will give a large impact to engineers who conventionally gave up three-dimensional wave motion calculation.

Applicable field of TiSSiEN-POP
TiSSiEN-POP is applicable to optical design of image sensor constituted of complicated multi-layered films, analysis of solar cell, three-dimensional optical circuit analysis, lithography etc.
